Canada's Milos Raonic to face home-nation Nick Kyrgios at Australian Open

Nick Kyrgios&apos Brisbane International campaign was brief and controversial

While Australian cricket has suffered its share of embarrassment over the past 12 months, that's just a small slice of what tennis has endured over recent years through the dubious exploits of Bernard Tomic and Nick Kyrgios.

However, Tomic, who has returned from a tough injury spell that saw him drop down to 243 in the world rankings, won the match in controversial fashion.

Serving for the match, Tomic caught Kyrgios off guard after hitting an underarm serve between his legs that bounced in his rival's service square.

Tomic won the clash 6-3, 6-4, with both players preparing to compete in the Australian Open when the tournament commences in Melbourne next week.

"I don't know what the Australian Open has done, but it is bad", Tomic said post-match.

Tomic, back in the main draw after failing to qualify last year, has an even more challenging opener against last year's runner-up, Croatian sixth seed Marin Cilic. "He won a title past year and it looks like he is carrying a bit of momentum".

Padraig Harrington named Europe’s 2020 Ryder Cup captain
Nearly from the time the last putt dropped at the Ryder Cup in France, Harrington was deemed the likely pick for 2020. The appointment of the three-time major champion, 47, was announced in a news conference at Wentworth on Tuesday.

"We could make deep runs at the Australian Open, but we've also got Alex de Minaur and John Millman".

With his silky hands and superb touch, Tomic broke for a 3-1 lead and then steamed through the first set.

"I want to be as healthy and fresh as possible heading into next week". "I think they're pretty cheap from what I've heard".

World No.51 Kyrgios had a break point early in the second but was unable to consolidate with Tomic then breaking at 3-3.

The 27-year-old Halep will be at the Australian Open next week in Melbourne without a coach after parting ways with Australian mentor Darren Cahill, who can longer commit to Halep due to family reasons.

He said: "I've made third or fourth round many times and lost to the great players of the world so my target is to make another quarter or maybe a semi if I can".
