National Basketball Association continuing investigation into Cavs, speaking to Patrick McCaw’s representatives Thursday

The Cavs could be fined or lose a draft pick if they are found guilty of any wrong doing, although it's going to be hard for the National Basketball Association to make a case that Cleveland did something illegal.

The Warriors held McCaw's rights as a restricted free agent, then elected not to match the two-year, $6 million offer sheet he signed December 28 with the Cavaliers - with the potential luxury-tax ramifications among the many factors in their thinking.

McCaw played just three games in Cleveland after signing a nonguaranteed two-year, $6 million deal with the Cavaliers. He reportedly turned down a two-year, $5 million deal from the team along with its $1.71 million qualifying offer. The Warriors had the opportunity to match, but they declined to do so. "I don't know that there's been a totally nonguaranteed offer sheet before". The Warriors took note of what was unfolding and asked the National Basketball Association to take a look at the situation.

Batshuayi to leave Valencia 'in the coming hours or days'
Chelsea striker, Michy Batshuayi is set to return to Stamford Bridge this month after Valencia chose to cut his loan short. Michy Batshuayi is set to return to Chelsea - but it doesn't look as though he'll be sticking around at Stamford Bridge.

No one is exactly sure why the Cavs chose to go through with that plan, but they are being investigated by the league for possibly salary cap circumvention.

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the 23-year-old is signing a one-year, $786,000 deal with the franchise. On top of this, if there is any instance of collusion between both the Cavaliers organization and McCaw's group, then Cleveland will lose their 2019 first-round draft pick along with future draft selections.

Losing a draft pick is a scary thought, especially for a team that is admittedly in rebuild mode. Most league executives are skeptical over possible punishment for the Cavaliers, who had a three-game window to evaluate McCaw and cut him before the league's contracts became guaranteed for the season.
