Megyn Kelly 'Definitely' Returning to TV After NBC Finalizes Exit Agreement

LAGUNA NIGUEL CA- OCTOBER 02 Megyn Kelly speaks onstage at the Fortune Most Powerful Women Summit 2018 at Ritz Carlton Hotel

The network announced on October 26 that Kelly's hour-long segment on the "Today" show - which was already troubled by mediocre ratings - would not return after her controversial "blackface" remarks. CNN reported that Kelly, who is in the middle of a three-year, $69 million deal, will be paid the remainder of her contract - believed to be about $30 million.

In a statement to ET on Friday, the network confirmed that Kelly is officially out, almost three months after Megyn Kelly Today was canceled following the host's controversial blackface comments.

Kelly departed from NBC on Friday after months of negotiations, which were triggered by her on-air claims that people can paint their faces black for Halloween to impersonate black persons - a statement that plenty of PC supporters branded as "racist".

Her tenure was also a failure for NBC News Chairman Andrew Lack, who lured her from Fox News Channel with the type of big-money contract that was once standard in television news, but now is less so with financial constrictions and less viewership.

Despite her differences with NBC News management, Kelly won accolades for her interviews with accusers of President Donald Trump, Bill O'Reilly, Harvey Weinstein, Roy Moore and other powerful men.

Time magazine, which honoured "The Silence Breakers" as its Person of the Year in 2017, cited Kelly as the group's leader in the entertainment field. This means the news anchor is able to begin working immediately.

"Back when I was a kid, that was okay as long as you were dressing up as like a character". During her hour of the show, Kelly started off with an extended apology and said it was "wrong" of her to defend blackface costumes.

Critics accused her of ignoring the ugly history of minstrel shows and movies in which whites applied blackface to mock blacks. Her regret over the comment, however, was apparently not enough to sway NBC executives.
