Data protection officials concerned over Facebook messaging merger

The ongoing plan to unify the stand alone apps, and to merge their messaging infrastructure, to make it possible, social media is firstly working on to bring end-to-end encryption to the Instagram Direct, and the platform of already offer this kind of security.

The Data Protection Commission (DPC) in Ireland yesterday (28 January) issued a statement saying that while it is aware the project is in its infancy, it has still requested an urgent briefing on what exactly is being proposed. According to the New York Times report, the three internet services would be continuing as stand-alone app and regarding the probable intermingle, the Facebook Inc.

Doing so could put Facebook on a collision course with European Union officials, who have repeatedly blocked it from using personal data from WhatsApp users.

In its most recent earnings report, Facebook estimated that 2.6 billion people now use Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram or Messenger each month.

But that's perhaps the most cunning part of Facebook's move: by merging its messaging services, it makes itself harder to break apart. Facebook's goal is to increase user engagement and discourage users from turning to other messaging platforms. Acquiring companies tend to promise they'll leave a purchased asset alone, but it never lasts - for mostly good reason. For the plan above to work, you'll probably have to tie together your Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram accounts, something not all people might want to do.

Margot Robbie Teases First Photo of Harley Quinn in 'Birds of Prey'
As you can see, the footage is labeled "See You Soon", and is the only video upload from YouTube user CheekySneakyPeeky . The film's writer Christina Hodson had previously said they had meant to change the working title but it simply stuck.

Although it was insisted each app would remain accessible in a standalone manner, the decision appears set to reduce the independence of each service. Facebook, for example, requires users to register their real name, while Instagram does not. It isn't trivial to connect a single person and her Facebook account to an Instagram profile under a pseudonym, and a WhatsApp account with just a phone number.

The New York Times reported on Friday that Facebook has planned to integrate chats within WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram.

Now, an integrated messaging service platform would be able to link the data and personal information of users from these three apps into a centralized database. It's unclear when the three chat apps will be unified.

But users will always have a choice when its comes to messaging platforms.

This new platform would allow social media users to communicate across three different platforms for the first time in history.
