Chinese engineer arrested in the USA for stealing Apple’s tech

Apple Car Concept Renders Idrop News 1 1000x600

The report comes from NBC South Bay, saying that the Federal Bureau of Investigation has accused an Apple employee, a citizen of China, of attempting to steal trade secrets.

Chen worked in the driverless cars section of the company, which recently fired some 200 employees in a restructuring. Furthermore, it said, Chen admitted to backing up his Apple-supplied work computer onto a personal hard drive, which is a big no-no per Apple's security policy.

Agents arrested Chen a mere day before he was supposed to fly to China, according to a criminal complaint.

Google reveals the shutdown date for Google
Google won't shut down Google + for G Suite customers and even plans to introduce new features to the Enterprise version. However, Google claims the process of deleting consumer Google + data will take a couple of months.

The complaint goes on to state Chen allowed Apple's Global Security team to search his personal computer, where Chen had stored thousands of files of Apple's intellectual property, including manuals, schematics, and diagrams. One of the photos dated June showed "assembly drawing of a wire harness for an autonomous vehicle". He also said he applied for jobs at 2 other companies, including an autonomous vehicle firm in China.

Apple didn't catch on to Chen's alleged espionage activities until January 11, when another Apple employee spotted him snapping pictures inside a secure Apple workspace. He informed Apple this month that he meant to travel to China to visit his ill father.

If found guilty, Chen faces 10 years imprisonment and up to $250,000 in fines. All of the information that was about to be stolen is regarding the supposed self-driving auto that we have been hearing on and off about over the past couple of years.

He was released last week after surrendering his passport and posting $100,000 in bail. Back in July, another ex-Apple engineer, Zhang Xiaolang, was charged with trying to pass the Apple Car secrets to a startup in China. It's worth noting the U.S. and China aren't really getting along when it comes to trade and intellectual property.
