Apple Releases Update to Prevent FaceTime Eavesdropping 7 February 2019

The bad news was you couldn't use group FaceTime for more than a week while Apple worked on the fix.

The bug allowed eavesdropping by someone calling their FaceTime contacts, receiving audio from them without their knowledge before they answered the call.

Apple today released iOS 12.1.4, and you can grab it now by going into Settings General Software Update. To make matters worse, if the person receiving the call pressed the power button to mute the ringing, their front-facing camera would turn on allowing the caller to see what was happening in the room.

After a slight delay, Apple has finally released the fix for a recent security issue on Group FaceTime feature on its iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

Apple says it has fixed the Group FaceTime issue, discovered by 14 year old Grant Thompson of Catalina Foothills High School, in all iOS devices including the often forgotten iPod touch.

"iOS 12.1.4 provides important security updates and is recommended for all users."

But as Bezos began to investigate the leak, the tabloid's parent disputed any suggestion that its story was politically motivated. According to the e-mails, an attorney for AMI offered a formal deal Wednesday: The tabloid wouldn't post the photos if Mr.

Apple did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Apple plans to contribute to Thompson's college fund in addition to paying a bounty to him and his family for reporting the bug. Apple has not stated if they are planning on doing so.

Live Photos won't work unless you update your device as Apple has updated their servers to block the feature from devices not running the latest security update.

For macOS users, the 10.14.3 update may automatically be installed. These will download in the background and install overnight when the device is connected to mains power.
