Joy Behar Under Fire After Photo of Her in Blackface Resurfaces

Joy Behar Admitted to Dressing Up as a 'Beautiful African Woman' With Makeup 'Darker Than My Skin'

A long forgotten video clip from ABC's "The View" resurfaced on Wednesday that showed co-host Joy Behar trying to explain a Halloween costume from when she was younger.

"I was so cute", she said, emphasizing that the curly tresses on her head were all hers. "[Behar] clearly stated she put on makeup darker than her skin for a "beautiful African woman" Halloween costume".

The video circulated on Twitter Wednesday amid a national conversation about blackface. Asked how old she was in the photo, she replied, "I was 29".

"Is that you, Joy?"

The Wrap media editor Jon Levine re-shared the clip, in which Behar admitted during a 2016 taping that she dressed as a "beautiful African woman" when she was 29 years old, adding that she wore makeup "that was a little bit darker than my skin". "I'm more flabbergasted by her willingness to pull this photo out and proudly show the world as if it's totally cool in the year 2016", Jezebel's Kara Brown wrote after the 2016 segment.

Trump says 'partisan' probes could endanger US economy
But beyond the substance of Trump's speech, Panagopoulos said that he will be watching for what kind of tone the president adopts. And though he offered a lengthy defense of his call for a border wall, declaring, "I will get it built".

Former co-host Raven-Symoné was shocked when the photo first appeared on screen. Raven-Symoné - who is black - continues her gentle ribbing of Behar, asking, "Are you my auntie, Joy?" and "Did you have tanning lotion on, Joy?" "Hell, girls can't even wear braids in their hair anymore without getting yelled at for that, but she ACTUALLY dresses as a "beautiful African woman" and nothing?" Behar, who usually makes headlines for squabbling with politically conservative panelists on the talk show, admitted that she was wearing makeup that was a "little bit darker" than her skin.

In the fall, NBC Today anchor Megyn Kelly was ousted from the network after defending blackface.

Many commented that Behar will "get a pass" because she's a liberal. "Joy, is that you, Joy?" she asked.

Some people have pounced on Behar since the photo resurfaced.

A rep for The View hasn't commented on the new controversy, but it seems likely Behar will address it on the show.
