Wells Fargo experiencing widespread outages affecting ATMs and mobile banking

'We apologize to our customers who may be experiencing an issue with our online banking and mobile app, ' Wells Fargo tweeted initially. As of 10 a.m., online banking services remained unavailable. On Feb. 1, the company also reported an outage.

"We're experiencing a systems issue that is causing intermittent outages, and we're working to restore services as soon as possible", the bank said in a statement. We apologize for the inconvenience.

The problems appear to have started early on Thursday morning, US West Coast time, and show no signs of abating.

A Wells Fargo employee told KULR-TV that a fire at the bank's facility in Shoreview, Minnesota, forced the bank to shut down its servers. "They did have an activation of a fire suppression system that was triggered due to dust from construction".

Pocahontas Claimed 'American Indian' Status on 1986 Texas Bar Card
That angered tribal leaders who said being a Native American is not determined by DNA alone but by membership in a tribe. Her opponents have wasted no time using the situation to their advantage. "I am not a tribal citizen".

It is unknown how many Wells Fargo customers were impacted.

There were thousands of reports of the issue on the website Down Detector and users were reporting that the issues they were experiencing were with online banking, the website and mobile banking. It is baffling that a single incident has set off such a chain reaction that it knocked out the entire internet-facing infrastructure of the bank.

We reached out to Steve Carlson, a VP of Corporate Communications for the region that includes Iowa, and he released the exact same information from Wells Fargo's second tweet.
