Hockey fans everywhere are making fun of Edmonton Oilers after GM firing

McDavid Oilers players not buying in 'should get out of the room'

The Edmonton Oilers finally fired general manager Peter Chiarelli.

Many were ecstatic when the Oilers hired Chiarelli as the club's GM and President of Hockey Operations.

It is expected that assistant general manager Keith Gretzky, Wayne's younger brother, will assume some of the GM responsibilities.

The shakeup comes hours after the club stumbled into the All-Star break with a third consecutive defeat on home ice.

Now that the deed is done, I believe Chiarelli so spectacularly screwed up the situation with McDavid and mates in Edmonton that he may never general manage at this level again.

Chiarelli was hired by the Oilers in April of 2015.

Right now they are three points back of the final wild-card spot in the western conference. After Chiarelli joined the organization in 2015, the Oilers made just one playoff appearance (2017).

Chiarelli traded 2010 top pick Taylor Hall to the New Jersey Devils one-for-one for defenseman Adam Larsson.

In recent days, local bloggers and columnists had been calling for Chiarelli to be fired and some fans at the Wings game chanted "Fire Chiarelli!"

Real Madrid's interest is the worst kept secret in football, with Hazard thought to be keen on signing for Los Blancos . Sometimes he needs a message from the coach in the press conference. "They speak the same language with the ball".

A replacement for Chiarelli wasn't immediately announced by the team.

If somebody in the organization figured that signing Mikko Koskinen to a $13.5 million U.S. three-year extension Monday would stop the latest skid or change the conversation, it didn't happen.

"Were not into a rebuild", Nicholson said. Hall won the Hart Trophy with the Devils previous year. He has also inked underperforming forward Milan Lucic to a multi-year millstone contract at US$6 million per season. Reinhart is still in the minors and the 16th turned out to be Calder Trophy victor Matthew Barzal who has played 132 National Hockey League games with New York Islanders with 32 goals and 129 points produced so far.

"We will look to try to bolster the offence and the defence, but we're not trading away our first-(round draft) pick".

The spotlight has shined extra bright on the Oilers this week, after they put Ryan Spooner (the only thing they have left to show for Jordan Eberle) on waivers on Monday and gave a generous contract extension to goaltender Mikko Koskinen on Tuesday. It was understood by most that the Oilers' brass would be on a short leash this season, and 49 points in January simply wasn't good enough to keep Chiarelli around.

The result was 11 losses in their first 20 games that led to the firing of McLellan and later a series of reactionary moves.

Who in their right mind is going to hire him now?

Chiarelli had the brilliant idea of signing Drake Caggiula out of North Dakota.
