Indians' Lindor likely to miss start of season

Francisco Lindor’s injury a reminder of his immense worth to the Indians and their championship hopes

Lindor reportedly suffered a calf strain while working out in Florida in preparation for the start of spring training next week. He was checked by a doctor at the Cleveland Clinic two days later and the doctor confirmed a moderate sprain.

The Twins are really the only team that will give Cleveland a run for their money, and even they do not have a good rotation or bullpen, but you look at the Indians and they have Corey Kluber, Trevor Bauer, and Carlos Carrasco in the rotation, and then an All Star closer in Brad Hand. He had 82 extra-base hits and tied for the major league lead with 129 runs.

Cleveland Indians Shortstop Francisco Lindor (L) talks with Cleveland Indians Third base Jose Ramirez (R) during the Major League Baseball regular season game between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Cleveland Indians on September 7, 2018, at Rogers Centre in Toronto, ON, Canada.

Prior to joining Oakland, Joyce spent six seasons in Tampa Bay where he slugged.435 with 76 home runs and 280 RBI, earning an All-Star bid in 2011.

The best case scenario for the Tribe would have Lindor missing the first week or so of the season.

If Lindor is unable to open the season - he's going to have to go through a fast-track version of spring training no matter when he returns - who is going to play shortstop?

-The New York Mets signed veteran middle infielder Danny Espinosa to a minor league contract, the team announced. Lindor has played in 158 games or more in three-consecutive seasons. In 2015, he finished second in AL Rookie of the Year votes and has a career.288/.350/.487 slash line. Lindor and the Indians settled on a one year-deal worth $10.55 million. He has a.221 career average with 98 homers in 872 games between 2010-17.
