The Walking Dead’s Danai Gurira is leaving the show after season 10

DANAI GURIRA Leaving THE WALKING DEAD - Report

Danai Gurira arrives at the premiere of AMC's "The Walking Dead" 4th season at Universal CityWalk on October 3, 2013 in Universal City, California.

Gurira is the latest in a string of Walking Dead stars to leave the show in the past year or so, following Chandler Riggs, who was written off in Season 8, and Lincoln and Lauren Cohan, who both left partway through Season 9, though Cohan may return in some capacity in Season 10.

AMC programming president David Madden spoke with The Hollywood Reporter back in November regarding Gurira's future with the series.

Danai Gurira, who plays the popular sword-wielding character Michonne, has signed on for a handful of episodes for The Walking Dead Season 10, which will be her last.

The Walking Dead continues on AMC Sundays and returns Mondays on Fox UK.

"The Walking Dead" is reportedly preparing to say goodbye to another of its main zombie fighters.

The Walking Dead is set to return for the second half of season nine on Sunday, which will herald the arrival of the Whisperers. Her loss will be a big blow to the show's creative plans. "She is an incredibly valuable character and I'm really hoping she stays", he added. Obviously, the lesson of Andy is that the show can survive anybody's departure if need be but that's not our goal. During her time on the show, her star as an actor and writer has risen immensely, thanks to a high-profile role in Black Panther and a Tony nomination in 2016 for her play Eclipsed.

What's more, she's set to return as Wakanda general Okoye in the upcoming Avengers: Endgame and is now in the process of adapting the novel Americanah - by Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie - into a TV miniseries. The announcement of her departure strikes another massive blow to the hit series after Andrew Lincoln left late past year.
