Katy Perry Shoes Pulled From Stores After Blackface Controversy

Katy Perry's The Ora Face Block Heels

The disturbing trend of blackface in designer fashion continued this week, as several pieces in pop star Katy Perry's shoe line are being pulled from shelves due to minstrel features on the footwear.

"Regarding Katy Perry's shoes; if you have to second guess whether a design is blackface/racist.it probably is".

Retailers Dillards and Walmart will pull the offending styles, though not the whole line, from its stores after social media backlash, the Post reported.

In a weather-delayed finish, Phil Mickelson triumphed at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am - the site of this year's U.S. Open. "I'll deal with that in six months". "It's nothing like the course we'll see, " Mickelson said.

Sources close to Perry told TMZ they were just shoe designs and she did not intent to make them look offensive.

The black versions are the more startling: They feature metal appliques imitating eyes and nose, plus exaggerated red lips on the vamp, the upper part of the shoes.

The news comes as Virginia's governor and an attorney general in Virginia have become embattled over pictures of them emerging donning blackface as young men; a lieutenant governor and gubernatorial hopeful in MS allegedly donning black face around the same timeframe; and high-end retailers like Gucci being accused of releasing a blackface turtleneck sweater that pulls up over your mouth with cut-out, oversized red lips. HuffPost reached out to Perry, her brand and Dillard's for comment but did not receive an immediate response.
