Netanyahu warns Iran of 'last Revolution Day' after regime's threats on TA

Iran's revolution Political quake still shaking Middle East

The event Monday is the culmination of official celebrations called the "10 Day Dawn" that mark the period between February 1, 1979 and February 11 when the revolution's leader Khomeini returned from exile and toppled the monarchy.

State TV showed crowds defying rainy weather and carrying Iranian flags while shouting anti-Israeli and anti-US slogans.

Iran's army declared its neutrality on February 11, 1979 and paved the way for the collapse of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi - the closest ally of the United States in the Middle East. President Hassan Rouhani said at a rally in the capital that Iran was determined to expand its military power.

Earlier at the anniversary celebrations, Iran's president Hassan Rouhani told crowds on Monday that Iran was committed to a path that will see the country expand its "military power".

He said that while Iran will continue to have "constructive engagement" with the worldwide community, it will not ask for permission to produce any type of missile it wants.

Rouhani pledged to pursue Iran's missile programme to defend the country from external threats.

"The Iranian people have and will have some economic difficulties but we will overcome the problems by helping each other", he said.

The large turnout in state-sponsored rallies, in which US and Israeli flags were burned, came as Iranians face mounting economic hardships many blame on the country's clerical leaders.

U.S. President Donald Trump tweeted on Monday that the Iranian government had let down its people.

Iranians are facing mounting economic hardships which many blame on the country's clerical leaders. One had the face of Trump and the other the face of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

"At the revolution's 40 anniversary we are on top of scientific achievements like nanotechnology or accurate missiles", he said.

Israel says it has carried out hundreds of airstrikes on Iranian-linked targets as part of a campaign to prevent Tehran from establishing a military presence in Syria.

Today, the United States, its Arab allies and Israel are trying to counter Tehran's growing influence in the Middle East, where it has proxies in Syria, Lebanon and Yemen. "The enemies are now confessing to their defeat", said Rouhani.

State television offered blanket coverage of the commemorations, showing marchers in cities ranging from Abadan in southwestern Iran to Mashad in the northeast.

"The enemy can not ask us to leave the region. They must leave the region", said Brig.

Soldiers, students, clerics and black-clad women holding small children thronged streets across Iran, many carrying portraits of Khomeini, who died in 1989, and Iran's current Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
