Unidentified Man Claims Jussie Smollett is Lying About Attack

Jussie Smollett

Guglielmi stressed to the Post Sunday afternoon that police "have no reason to doubt" Smollett, but need his phone data to further the investigation, particularly since none of the surveillance footage, which reportedly covers all but about 60 seconds of Smollett's walk home from Subway, has shown any evidence of the attack.

A spokesperson for Chicago police added that the department was "appreciative" Smollett made a decision to cooperate with the investigation, but they'll likely be asking him for more phone records in order to properly review the case.

Almost two weeks after "Empire" star Jussie Smollett claimed he was the victim of a racist, homophobic attack, cops have yet to identify any suspects - and some people in his tony Chicago neighborhood are growing skeptical.

"Any redacted information was meant to protect the privacy of personal contacts or high-profile individuals not relevant to the attack", Smollett's Sunshine Sachs released statement today noted in direct response to the use of the loaded term "insufficient".

Since the January 29 incident, Chicago police have not been able to identify any legitimate suspects in the case or find any surveillance video capturing the attack on film.

This totally contradicts the one neighbor who says that she saw a suspicious individual around the building where she and Smollett reside about 90 minutes before the alleged attack.

USA officials arrive in China for trade talks as deadline looms
Those tariffs now stand at 10 percent, but an additional $50 billion worth of imports has already been hit by a 25 percent tariff. Beijing officials have yet to offer satisfying proposals on U.S. demands.

As for the phone records, Guglielmi said, "We are very appreciative of the victim's cooperation, however, the records provided do not meet the burden for a criminal investigation as they were limited and heavily redacted". He says the records aren't sufficient for an investigation.

On Monday, a spokesperson for Smollett told the New York Post in an email that phone records from Smollett's manager, Brandon Z, "were sent to police on February 5 and Jussie's records were sent over this morning".

Chicago police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi told the New York Post that "we offered to take the phone to download the data, and he expressed he couldn't be without his phone for several hours".

On Tuesday, in a statement, Smollett's representatives dismissed any suggestion that the actor isn't cooperating fully and said that some information was redacted to protect the privacy of others.

"I don't believe it happened the way he said it did".

Smollett released a statement on February 1 addressing the attack. "Chicago PD has repeatedly informed us that they find Jussie's account of what happened that night consistent and credible". Superintendent Johnson has been clear from Day 1 that Jussie is a victim.
