Google's Human-Sounding AI 'Google Duplex' is Coming to iPhones

Concerns about Google's nondisclosure of some processes within its Duplex app have emerged ever since the company initiated a demo past year.

Google Assistant now can make Duplex calls on Pixel phones in 43 states - tough luck, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska and Texas - with the feature moving beyond Google's phones shortly.

The AI-driven feature that lets you make use of the Google Assistant to call up and book a restaurant is now being expanded to more places and by association, more people. Notably, India already has assistant support to host Duplex, but the final answer still remains to be seen. It may have finally gotten over those legal hurdles as it announced the availability of Duplex in 43 of 50 states in the US. Were actively working to reach full coverage, but dont have a timeline to share at this time.

That, of course, opens up a can of privacy worms, from disclosing to restaurant receptionists that they're talking to a bot to the recording of that conversation.

Engadget reported that the automated voice-calling tech will now be available for Pixel phone owners.

After first bringing Duplex to Pixel phones previous year in a few major cities across the United States (New York, San Francisco, etc.), Google is now ready for a broader rollout across much of the country. The AI robot will go through the reservation procedures for the user. The assistant makes the phone call, and once the reservation is successful, you'll get a notification on your phone, an email update, and a calendar invite. All without needing to say "Hey Google" again. Previously, the company had its Reserve with Google Program but also had limited services. Google offered The Verge the following statement about those last few States.
