Motorola foldable RAZR leak suggests an unexpected twist

That's an approach that many have said appears to be the best option, compared to the way the Galaxy Fold has its display in the inside when closed. A variety of smartphone vendors also showed off prototypes during the show or mentioned plans to launch a device in the near future. A week later, we have a leak that lists several of the features Motorola has developed for foldable phones. Pricing is also a big unknown, but considering the Galaxy Fold will sell for nearly $2,000, we don't expect either of them to be anything anyone would call low-priced.

Instead, the Motorola foldable could be meant to make a regular-sized smartphone much more compact and pocket-friendly when folded down.

Details on Motorola's foldable phone have emerged, including reported software features and confirmation that it will have a clamshell design, much like the Motorola Razr from the mid-00s.

In short, it sounds quite a lot like how the original RAZR used its external screen, albeit with the new Voyager closed display being a touchscreen.

Meanwhile, the external display will work as a trackpad for scrolling apps and lists on the primary display when that's unfolded.

Through its own software, Motorola is reportedly limiting which apps can access the secondary display.

The phone's interior display, which can be used to trigger the camera and display up to six "Quick Settings" tiles, will also double as a trackpad that can be used to navigate web pages in Google Chrome, according to the report.

This is said to be in the test phase at Motorola and is now limited to simple functions, such as scrolling Google Chrome webpages up and down. In addition to this, information such as the time and weather could be available to users at all time too.

When in the camera app, the user can tap on the primary display to capture a photo, or swipe up on the primary display to zoom in. Motorola is also working on displaying an animation when using Assistant, although it's unclear whether it'll take it further and show answers to your prompts as well. However, this would be an optional setting; users could instead require that the phone be unlocked and unfolded to access the Google Assistant.

Motorola is testing having the Moto Display app show a clock, pulsing notifications, and controlling media via the external display.
