The fashion retailer, known for its smart daywear, attracted celebrity fans over its near 30-year history, including the Duches. With the rise of competition from online retailer offering cheap easy alternatives it's hard for high street brand to survive.

The Port Authority spokesman says other airport operations were not affected.

The plane was carrying more than 300 passengers and crew members. 28 passengers onboard and 2 cabin staff, who had sustained non-life threatening injuries, were taken to the hospital upon the flight's landing, for their overall control. Turkish Airlines officials were not immediately available for comment.

Earlier in the day, a plane operated by Canada's Air Transat made an emergency landing at another NY area airport - in Newark, New Jersey - after smoke was detected in the cargo hold, the company said.

Earlier Saturday, Newark Airport temporarily closed its runways after a flight from Montreal to Fort Lauderdale made an emergency landing with smoke in its cargo hold.
