Philadelphia Eagles signing Malik Jackson will work wonders on defense

Former Jags DT Malik Jackson expected to sign with Eagles on a 3-year deal

But plenty of news comes out before then.

The DeSean Jackson era in Tampa Bay appears to be coming to a close.

The Eagles agreed to re-work Jackson's contract with a deal that is expected to be worth $27 million over three years, according to a source.

Derrick Gunn of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports the Eagles are sending the Buccaneers a 2019 sixth-round pick and a 2020 seventh-round pick.

Kapadia: The Eagles have been trying and failing to replace DeSean Jackson since Chip Kelly unceremoniously released the speedy wide receiver in 2014, following a season in which he caught 82 balls for 1,332 yards and nine touchdowns. He led the National Football League by averaging 18.9 yards per catch in 2018 - he burned the Eagles for a 75-yard touchdown on the first play from scrimmage in their September meeting - and he's averaged 17.4 yards per catch in his career. Also used extensively as a punt returner early in his career, he took four punts back for touchdowns in his first three seasons with the Eagles.

Teams may begin to negotiate with potential free agents on Monday and are allowed to finalize contracts with them beginning on Thursday.

Jackson gives the Eagles a badly needed deep threat on the outside.

Jackson was slated to make $10 million in 2019 on the final year of his three-year, $33.5 million deal with the Bucs. He played just 79 percent of the offensive snaps last season and missed more than half the 2017 season, including the entire postseason, after wrecking a knee.

At 32-years-old, Jackson is still a burner, on the field and of holes in the pockets of the Buccaneers.
