Jussie Smollett struts into court for hearing about allowing cameras in courtroom

An attorney representing U.S. television actor Jussie Smollett, accused of staging a false hate-motivated attack, said Tuesday the case was mired in "misinformation" and "demonstrably false" evidence.

No one was happier about the ruling than Smollett, who was camera ready when he rolled up to court rocking shades, gloves, and a sleek grey trench coat - his first time being spotted since a grand jury indicted him on 16 counts last week.

Earlier today, Jussie Smollett made an appearance in court to see if cameras would or would not be allowed at his next court hearing.

Insiders told the outlet that Smollett wanted to be in court to show that he is taking an active part in his own criminal defense.

The embattled actor - who is accused of filing a false police report claiming he was the victim of a hate crime - attended Tuesday's hearing, even though his presence was not required in the court. Details in some of those statements were different, the indictment says.

Smollett's attorney, Mark Geragos, has questioned why the Osundairo brothers were not indicted alongside him. "We knew that there is no way they would expose their evidence to a public airing and subject their witnesses to cross-examination".

Smollett reported to police in January that he had been attacked in Chicago in an incident that ended with a noose around his neck. "What is unexpected, however, is the prosecutorial overkill in charging 16 separate counts against Jussie".

During 47 hours of questioning the pair told police Smollett planned out the fake attack himself and paid them $3,500 to carry it out.

"Empire" actor Jussie Smollett has arrived at a hearing in Chicago where lawyers will discuss whether cameras should be allowed in the courtroom during his disorderly conduct trial. Allegations against Mr. Smollett are shameful & if proven, they are an affront to the people of Chicago who embraced him as a neighbor & respected him as a role model.
