San Francisco 49ers trade for Dee Ford

Dee Ford #55 of the Kansas City Chiefs begins to rush the passer during the second half of the game against the Arizona Cardinals at Arrowhead Stadium on November 11, 2018 in Kansas City, Missouri.

Steve Spagnuolo, Kansas City's new defensive coordinator, will use the 4-3 scheme that is predicated on size and strength up front, and Ford - who is listed at 6-foot-2 and 243 pounds - isn't necessarily a physical prototype for an edge rushing position in Spagnuolo's system.

Last season, Ford finally became the player the Chiefs had envisioned when they drafted him out of Auburn in the first round in 2014. The deal also includes Ford's agreement with the 49ers to a five-year deal worth $87.5 million, a source said. Ford was rated as the top edge rusher by Pro Football Focus past year, and you don't let that kind of talent go voluntarily. After missing several games with injuries throughout the course of his career, Ford played all 16 weeks for the first time since his rookie season. He also forced a league-high seven fumbles. The 49ers have managed to give up their 2020 second-rounder, while preserving the No. 36 overall pick in the 2019 draft.

The franchise tag for an outside linebacker next season is just over $15.4 million.

EU Reportedly to Crush UK With Billions in Brexit Delay Punishment
In January the British Parliament rejected May's deal by 230 votes , the biggest defeat for a government in modern British history.

The 49ers badly need to upgrade their pass rush and are expected to make multiple additions along the edges of the defensive line.

Ford will reportedly receive a significant contract extension from the 49ers. They still possess the second overall pick in the upcoming National Football League draft, and if they use that selection on, say, Ohio State's Nick Bosa or Kentucky's Josh Allen, it's easy to see why the 49ers would be excited.

The 49ers still have a long way to go to build a championship contender, but Ford - despite his previous mishap - is the exact kind of player that will help them get there.
