Beto O'Rourke

He has been discussed as a potential candidate ever since his unexpectedly tight race past year to unseat Senator Ted Cruz, when his grassroots campaign of inclusion and getting people politically involved gained national attention. Ted Cruz, though by much less than Democrats usually do in ruby-red Texas.

Beto O' Rourke has announced that he is running for president in 2020.

Mr O'Rourke has represented Texas' 16 congressional district for three terms in the US House of Representatives.

When the Des Moines Register/CNN/Mediacom poll was first run in December, O'Rourke placed third, the top choice of 11 percent.

The former U.S. congressman enters as a formidable candidate.

He added: "You can probably tell that I want to run. I do".

The field of Democratic candidates already includes Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, and Julian Castro, among others. "I don't see how we're able to meet any of the fundamental challenges that we have as a country without, in part, harnessing the power of the market".

Several reports said that O'Rourke's volunteers from his Senate run had been contacted and urged to be ready to get back to work.
