Google celebrates 30th birth anniversary of World Wide Web with a doodle

Tim Berners Lee invented the World Wide Web in 1989

"According to AP, speaking at a "[email protected]" conference, Berners-Lee acknowledged that for those who are online, "the web is not the web we wanted in every respect". The Contract, which has been backed by companies like Google, Microsoft and Facebook, outlines a set of principles to which governments, companies and citizens should commit to, including free, affordable access to the internet and respect for consumers' privacy and personal data. Initially, Berners-Lee envisioned "a large hypertext database with typed links,"named "Mesh", to help his colleagues at CERN (a large nuclear physics laboratory in Switzerland) share information amongst multiple computers".

Indeed it is important to remember that the Internet and the World Wide Web are not the same thing.

The inventor of the World Wide Web, British computer scientist Sir Tim Berners-Lee, agrees. "They are all stepping back suddenly horrified after the Trump and Brexit elections realizing that this web thing that they thought was so cool has actually not necessarily been serving humanity very well".

His boss at the time, Mike Sendall, called Berners-Lee's idea "vague but interesting" and the NeXT computer that he was working on became the world's first web server.

Berners-Lee's proposal contained the basic concepts of the web, including ideas like HTML, URL, and HTTP, but it would be another couple of years before he could demonstrate his idea.

"The decision to make the Web an open system was necessary for it to be universal".

The World Wide Web Foundation is now developing what it calls a Contract for the Web, which aims to ensure access to the internet is recognised as a human right - built for the public good.

Berners-Lee launched a campaign called "Contract for the Web" at the Web Summit tech conference in Lisbon, Portugal, last year.

'Bomb Cyclone' brings snow, high winds to U.S. Plains states
Meanwhile, hundreds of flights were canceled at Denver International Airport, and almost 40 were grounded in Colorado Springs. The NWS said Wednesday afternoon there was an 80 miles per hour peak wind gust recorded at the Denver International Airport.

The web also fuels the unsafe spread of misinformation; search engine optimization tactics can push fake news stories to the top of Google search results, feeding internet users with falsities. People weren't immediately stoked - but they were intrigued.

To celebrate its 30th anniversary, we've gathered some of the "firsts" of the web and the internet.

"The dream behind the Web is of a common information space in which we communicate by sharing information", he wrote.

Although it is hard to set a certain date for the "birth" of www or the Internet, Tim Berners-Lee's work is considered a decisive moment for what later became an integrated part of our life.

"It's our journey from digital adolescence to a more mature, responsible and inclusive future".

Berners-Lee also cited state-sponsored hacking, online harassment, hate speech, and the spread of misinformation as just some of his concerns.

Many websites from the early days of the Web have gone dark, but the first one is still live.
