Google releases first Android Q beta for Pixel phones

Android Qs first beta is here for all Pixel devices Heres whats new

In addition to these, Android Q brings new connectivity APIs onboard along with support for more media codecs and camera improvements.

As Android fans know, every new version of the operating system is named after a sweet treat.

We've got Android Q beta up and running on our Pixel 3 XL.

Speaking of control, Google's blog post today notes that Android Q gives users more control over things like access to shared files. Google will be talking about these subjects a whole lot more at GDC 2019 - so stay tuned for deeper details. In prior versions of Android, apps could only get your location when they ask for permission and the users grants it. You should be able to disable or reset your advertising ID without being tracked, and Android Q makes that possible.

Once installed, the malicious Simbad SDK phones home and starts embedding itself on the user device to prevent removal, and would start fetching and displaying ads to generate revenue.

Android Q also makes sharing content faster. So app developers will need to figure out official full-screen intents such as seen during calls or in the official alarm app for Android for their apps. In the past, you could either grant or deny location access for an app, but there was no in between. And because they're published in advance, the share UI can load instantly.

The first Android Q developer preview is here! Google is also working on updating its Android Emulator to add support to such new devices in the coming future. As part of the changes, the menu will be "quicker" allowing users to quickly jump into the other app.

Android Q's desktop mode is clearly a work-in-progress but it's nonetheless an interesting development. We're talking a Snapdragon 625 SoC (MSM8953 motherboard) and 3 gigs of RAM (a little over 2.8 user-accessible), both of which are clashing with previously rumored, leaked, and revealed features. For example, Chrome could show shortcut buttons for adjusting settings like WiFi, airplane mode, and data without you needing to go into the Settings app.

Also, the access to sensitive information such as IMEI number and serial number will be restricted on Android Q. The Wi-Fi stack in the new OS comes has been rebuilt to deliver enhanced privacy and performance. This is a first for Google as the company only allowed OTAs of Android betas in the later stages when it had become more stable. There are also system images and OTA files available for sideloading. That means developers will be able to provide better depth of field effects for pictures like bokeh and blur. This beta update puts a final stable build for the original Pixel phones on the table even though the promised software updates should have ended with Android 9.0 Pie.
