Sega Halts Sales of Judgement in Japan Following Actor's Cocaine Arrest

Sega halts Judgment shipments and digital sales in Japan following actor Pierre Taki's arrest [Update]

According to news reports, police searched Taki's auto and house based on tips, and no drugs were found, but Taki himself tested positive for cocaine use.

Taki has subsequently been placed under arrest, and has admitted "There is no mistake that I used cocaine".

Japan has strict drug laws, and possession of cocaine can carry a sentence of up to seven years. The latest game from the team behind the long-running Yakuza/Ryu ga Gotoku franchise, Judge Eyes is set in the seedy underbelly of real-life Tokyo neighborhood Shinjuku, and its hero is modeled on popular actor/musician/handsome dude Takuya Kimura, previously a member of boy band SMAP.

Taki plays the role of Kyohei Hamura in Judgment. "For the time being, we will voluntarily refrain from shipments and digital sales of Judgment, as well as from things like posting the product's homepage". The company would like to "apologize for any inconvenience caused to our customers and related parties".

At least, they have Saquon Barkley , their face of the franchise, but needless to say, Giants fans are distraught over this move. Cleveland also is expected to add defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson and defensive end Olivier Vernon this offseason.

Nothing has happened, as yet, other than the actor's potential cocaine use, but there's a reason everyone's already anxious. "The release of Judgment overseas this year is now under consideration [following the arrest of Pierre Taki]".

At least for now, it seems like Judgment may be done for in Japan, but what about the game's upcoming Western release?

On Twitter, Sega said it would also be deleting marketing tweets about the game.

In a odd and surprising round of news, Sega has announced that it has stopped physical shipments and digital sales of the Yakuza spinoff Judgment in Japan following the arrest of actor Pierre Taki. It is not clear at this time whether or not the halted sales in Japan will affect the release of the game's release elsewhere. Taki also voiced Olaf in the Japanese version of Disney's Frozen.
