Whoopi Goldberg Returns to 'The View' After Pneumonia

This marks the first time Goldberg has been out publicly since her near-death experience battling double pneumonia and sepsis. "I'm not there yet, I know that". And along with a big thank you for all the love and support she received, the 63-year-old Oscar victor came with a message about health insurance.

Last week, Goldberg broke her silence about why she's been gone for so long in a video message to fans. Goldberg said she hopes to appear on next Monday's episode. "The guy said to me, 'What color is that?' talking about my face because I was some weird color", she said.

"You think you can push through because you got a little cold, you say, 'I'm just gonna keep going, keep going.' And you think because you've healed quick before, that something insane can't happen". You think because you've healed quickly before that something insane can't happen, Well, it can. "Who told them they could use that money when I wasn't using it?'" "Because there's little tiny stuff out there that will kill you that you'd never think of".

Her fellow co-hosts were stunned by her arrival and Goldberg was greeted with their smiles and embraces while the audience chanted her name.

"The scariest moment was hearing my doctor say to me, 'You do realize how close to death you were?'" she said.

"There are all these conspiracy theories on the Internet that she's not really sick and she's secretly preparing to host the Oscars", Behar said. As for now, "my immune system is challenged", she said. "I'm supposed to just like ease back in and I will".

Goldberg said she had been coughing since November, which was the early sign of her illness.

She also explained that she got special permission to stop by since she missed the other ladies. Aww.... "We are shocked", added Joy Behar. "I really kind of missed y'all!" And the people who are saying "no" to you in insurance are not doctors.

"I think doctors should not be on insurance boards. They are people who are looking at algorithms and things", Goldberg said.

When things calmed down, The View's panel asked Goldberg about how she's feeling. It turned out her doctor wanted her to use one machine, but her insurance advocate wanted her to use another one.

"These are things that we have the power to take care of".
