Chiefs WR Tyreek Hill subject of police investigation in child battery case

Chiefs WR Tyreek Hill part of police investigation in Overland Park

The Kansas City Star is reporting that Chiefs' wideout Tyreek Hill was named in a police report concerning the alleged abuse of a minor.

Overland Park police spokesman John Lacy confirmed the 25-year-old is involved in a police criminal investigation, but would not confirm any other details about the case or his involvement. As of Friday evening, Hill has yet to be accused of any crime, according to The Star.

According to a police report obtained by the paper, the Overland Park (Kansas) Police Department are investigating a battery incident involving a juvenile with Hill's fiancee, Crystal Espinal, listed under "others involved".

Hill's name is not listed on this report, KCTV reports.

"We're in the process of gathering information and have been in contact with the league and local authorities", the club said in a statement. A source told the publication that the alleged incident was against the couple's three-year-old son and reportedly resulted in a broken arm. It's unclear exactly when the incident took place, but the report is dated Thursday. "We will have no further comment at this time". In 2014, Hill choked Espinal while she was pregnant with their son.

Her disappearance sparked a huge investigation involving Portuguese police and Scotland Yard, which is still pursuing leads. The new documentary, which airs tomorrow (15 March), promises to explore the disturbing background of the case.

Hill pleaded guilty in 2015 to domestic assault and battery by strangulation after punching and choking Espinal, who was then eight weeks pregnant with their son, on December 11, 2014.

He received three years of probation and, as part of his plea deal, agreed to attend a 52-week batterer intervention course. The team and the star receiver have been discussing a large contract extension that's expected to make him among the highest-paid players at his position.

The conviction was dismissed in August 2018 after Hill completed his probation requirements.

After being kicked off of OSU's football team the wide receiver transferred to West Alabama and was drafted in the fifth round by the Chiefs in 2016.
