Lawyers: Decision not to free Viet accused is discrimination

Doan Thi Huong leaves the Shah Alam High Court on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur on Thursday

The request to drop the murder charge against Huong came after Malaysia on Monday released Siti Aisyah, an Indonesia woman who was charged together with Huong in the case.

Doan Thi Huong broke down in tears as a prosecutor announced the attorney-general had rejected a request to free her and her trial would continue.

Nam was assassinated with a liquid VX nerve agent in February 2017 at Kuala Lumpur airport. Officials there did not respond promptly to requests from BenarNews to confirm the information as relayed by her defense team.

Describing the decision not to withdraw the charge as "perverse", Teh accused the attorney-general of favoring one party over the other.

Doan and Siti Aisyah, as well as four others still at large, were accused of Jong-nam's murder at the departure hall of the KL International Airport 2 (klia2) on Feb 13, 2017.

"The accused has not been feeling well".

"I have no idea what is going on", Huong said in the courtroom Thursday.

"We hope the Vietnamese government will put further and greater pressure on the Malaysian government to ensure there is equality", The told reporters.

Earlier, Hương's lawyer asked the Ministry of Justice and the Attorney General of Malaysia to release her after the Indonesian suspect had been freed.

His 74 included a triple-bogey at his 10th hole, the par-four first, where he took five shots to hole out from a greenside bunker. He led by one stroke from South Korean An Byeong-hun and American Brian Harman, and by two from Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy .

Vietnam's foreign ministry expressed "regret" at the outcome while a politician criticised it as "mind-boggling".

Lawyers for the two women argued they were duped by the North Korean agents, who tricked them into thinking they were taking part in a reality TV show. The Interpol has issued red notices asking governments to send them back to face trial.

Four men from North Korea who were suspected of being behind the attack fled Malaysia the day Kim was killed, leaving Huong and Siti Aisyah the only two people in custody in relation to the crime. The North Korean embassy in Kuala Lumpur was defaced with graffiti just hours before the trial was to resume. We ran the same defense that they have no knowledge, no intention to kill, a scapegoat.

On Aug 16, 2018, the court ordered Siti Aisyah and Doan to enter their defence on the charge.

Varughese said Tommy Thomas may have his reasons for continuing the prosecution of Doan Thi Huong in Kim Jong-nam's murder. Ramkarpal said in a statement Thursday.

"She's a little bit nervous and weak", Quỳnh said.

He said the AG's discretion ought to be open to question, particularly when a person's life was at stake. Malaysia now has a moratorium on executions but has backtracked on its announcement a year ago that it would abolish the death penalty.

Malaysian authorities disagreed. During the police investigation and through most of the trial, police and prosecutors were adamant that both women knew what they were doing, which made Monday's developments all the more surprising.

CCTV footage showed one of them placing her hands over his face, then both women leaving the scene.
