The Sopranos followed the life of Tony Soprano, a New Jersey mob boss as he dealt with personal and professional issues in his home and business.

Joining Gandolfini is Alesandro Nivola as Dickie Moltisanti, the father of Christopher Moltisanti (Michael Imperioli) from the original series.

Alessandro Nivola, Vera Farmiga, Ray Liotta, Jon Bernthal, Corey Stoll, Billy Magnussen and John Magaro will also star in the prequel, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

As for the plot, the film is set in the 1960s during the Newark riots, five days of violence that saw members of the African-American and Italian communities clashing with local police.

Many characters from the original "Sopranos" series are expected to appear in "Newark" so numerous actors hired already could be playing the younger versions of the ones made famous on the show.
