The event, labeled as "It's Show Time", hints at its focus on subscription services.

Apple is also in discussions with HBO, part of AT&T Inc-owned WarnerMedia, to become part of the service and it could yet make it in time for the launch, according to a person familiar with the matter.

We have been talking about Apple's AirPods for quite a while now and regularly speculating on when the company will thrust the accessory into the ether and replace it with a second-generation release. Sources say that it's down to the details at this point, as each of the premium networks want to have a say in "marketing, promotion and the user experience". Apple typically saves big news about its flagship product, the iPhone, for launch events every September. Since licensing negotiations like this can often drag on for months, or even years, setting a launch date draws a line in the sand that likely helps to motivate the companies involved to wrap up deals in a more timely manner.

That's undoubtedly a very small compromise to make for huge savings on powerful tablets packing Apple A10X processors, with lovely Retina displays also in tow, not to mention excellent battery life, premium sound technology, and surprisingly capable cameras. Further, neither of the popular media services likely feel that they need Apple to attract or retain subscribers.

Don't expect any of these new iPad to show up at Apple's March 25 product event.
