‘Islamopobic’ attack in Whitechapel after New Zealand mosque massacre

The death toll from the worst attack directed at Muslims in the West in modern times stood Saturday at 49More

Brenton Tarrant, an Australian-born 28-year-old man who was arrested for the massacres of at least 49 people in two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, on March 15 has been charged with murder.

According to New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, the suspect had a firearms licence and owned five guns.

Business Standard reports that Tarrant allegedly used "two semi-automatic rifles, two shotguns and a lever-action weapon".

The tragic attack saw 41 people killed at the Masjid Al Noor mosque in central Christchurch, whilst seven others were killed at the suburban Linwood Masjid Mosque, and one person died later at Christchurch Hospital.

Hundreds of people gathered in Nathan Phillips Square Friday evening to remember the victims killed in shootings at two New Zealand mosques.

"I can tell you one thing right now, our gun laws will change", Ardern said adding that a ban on semi-automatic weapons would be considered. Shamir Khan, 25 and three other men from his family, were at the Al Noor Mosque, one of the two mosques attacked by gunmen.

The shooter live-streamed the assault on Facebook.

The winners of New Zealand's first-class domestic cricket competition, Plunket Shield, has been decided with a round left, in the wake of the terrorist attack at a mosque in Christchurch.

Six of the victims of Friday's shooting rampage at two New Zealand mosques were of Palestinian origin, as were at least six of the wounded, the Palestinian Maan news agency reported Saturday, citing the Palestinian Foreign Ministry.

Ali also called Trump "a racist", as other critics have based on the president's comment that both sides were to blame in a deadly white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, in August 2017.

Ardern said the investigation was ongoing but authorities believed there was only "one primary perpetrator".

He was remanded in custody and is set to reappear in court April 5.

"He was professional, he was punctual, reliable.as normal as one person to the next", she said.

When asked about whether the same person carried both shootings, Bush said officials were not aware of anything that would contradict that suggestion. He had no criminal history in New Zealand or Australia and had not drawn the attention of the intelligence community for extremist views.

"We have had patients with injuries to most parts of the body that range from relatively superficial soft tissue injuries to more complex injuries involving the chest, the abdomen, the pelvis, the long bones and the head", Roberson said. "But I can't say any more than that", said Bush at a Christchurch press conference on Saturday.
