Jaguar Land Rover recalls 44000 cars

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is recalling 44,000 cars in the United Kingdom after regulators found 10 models were emitting more carbon dioxide (CO2) than they had been certified to emit.

"Jaguar Land Rover is conducting a voluntary recall following the identification of Carbon dioxide performance variability with certain 2016-2019 MY Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles fitted with 2.0L diesel or petrol engines", said James Scrimshaw, PR manager for JLR Australia.

The recall affects a range of models sold in the United Kingdom between 2016 and 2019 powered by 2.0-litre petrol or diesel engines.

Physical repairs will be needed on some, while others will only need their software updated.

JLR also declared that it shall be contacting the owners of the affected vehicles in order to arrange free-of-charge repairs.

Regulators found 10 models were emitting more of the greenhouse gas than they had been certified to emit.

Louisan learns his uncle was wounded in New Zealand mosque attacks
He sustained a head injury, which was not believed to be serious, and was kept in hospital for treatment, the police added. Following the attack, New Zealand's national security level was changed from "low" to "high".

The news comes a week after Jaguar Land Rover announced that its diesel vehicles had some of the lowest NOx emissions of any auto on sale today. The British manufacturer then contacted the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency and an alert was made via the European Commission's rapid alert system.

There's several model lines potentially affected by the impending recall, including the Jaguar E-Pace, F-Pace, XE, XF, Land Rover Discovery Sport, Range Rover Evoque, Velar, and Sport.

One of the alerts issued said: "Certain vehicles fitted with 2.0L diesel engines may emit excessive levels of Carbon dioxide and may not conform with the certified condition".

Natalie Hitchins, head of home products and services at consumer group Which?, said: "Consumers must be able to fully trust the claims of auto manufacturers, particularly after the emissions scandals of recent years".

Speaking with CarAdvice, JLR's local arm confirmed there are 1731 units affected in Australia - 958 Land Rovers and 773 Jaguars.
