Elizabeth Warren wants to kill the electoral college

Elizabeth Warren

But Warren's comments Monday during a MS town hall broadcast on CNN represent her most straightforward endorsement of an end to the electoral college system.

Warren is one of more than a dozen Democrats vying for the 2020 nomination.

In 2016, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton defeated President Donald Trump by almost 3 million votes in the popular vote by running up big leads in Democratic strongholds.

"We need to make sure that every vote counts", she said, before going on to say in presidential election years, candidates ignore states like MS, as well as blue states like California and MA, because they're not battleground states.

A number of traditionally Democratic states have pushed a plan to institute a national popular vote at the state level. The Massachusetts senator complained that candidates often skip states such as MS, her own home state, and larger ones such as California because they're not battleground states.

"I think everybody ought to have to come and ask for your vote", Warren said.

The Queen Vetoed Meghan & Harry's Plan to Be "Entirely Independent" from Palace
Cape Town - Major changes in the British royal family are now taking place but fear not, the queen has everything under control. They wanted an autonomous household, but Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Charles did not want that to happen.

The Massachusetts senator said she was initially asked about voting rights, with an audience member citing 23 felonies that prevent convicted criminals in MS from voting for the rest of their lives and "archaic" voter registration ordeals as illustrations of voter disenfranchisement.

On Sunday, Colorado joined 11 other states and the District of Columbia in the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact. The bill, which needs states representing at least 270 Electoral College votes to sign on in order to take effect, has 181.

Twice in the past 20 years, the presidency was won by a Republican while more people nationwide voted for the Democratic candidate.

Warren, who announced her presidential run in February, is not the only one in the sea of 2020 candidates calling for the Electoral College's abolishment. Sen.

Because many states are dominated by either Republicans or Democrats, the victor of a presidential election is largely a foregone conclusion in those states.

Warren and other supporters of the change argue that Trump's 2016 victory - via a system that ignores the national popular vote victor - defies "the sign of a healthy democracy".
