Flight management system crash causes airline delays across US

Southwest Airlines jet moves on the runway as a person eats at a terminal restaurant at La Guardia Airport in New York

A technical problem that temporarily grounded Southwest Airlines flights and several other major airlines for about an hour Monday morning has been resolved, according to news reports.

At least five airlines were affected: Delta, Southwest, American Airlines, Alaska Airlines and JetBlue.

According to the FAA, airlines faced problems "with a flight planning weight and balance program called Aerodata". The disruption in service impacted some of its regional carriers and has since been resolved, according to the airline. "No cancellations are expected due to the issue and our teams are working to resolve some resulting delays", the Delta statement said. New York's LaGuardia Airport, Boston's Logan International Airport, and Chicago's O'Hare International Airport were the three worst affected hubs.

Benzema completed the turnaround nine minutes from time, this time rising to meet Toni Kroos' right-wing delivery and picking out the bottom-left corner.

The No. 1 USA carrier American Airlines said the outage was affecting regional carriers nationwide. Such calculations also must be approved by airline dispatchers in remote offices, complicating flight schedules if communications or computer systems crash.

FlightAware, an airline tracking website, said Southwest had delayed 775 flights, or 18 percent of its USA flights on Monday.

Southwest Airlines lifted an internal ground stop Monday morning after about 40 minutes. The airline anticipated scattered delays and said travellers should check its website for the updates on specific flights. Airlines are urging passengers to monitor flight times for changes throughout the day. That flight was scheduled for 6:50 a.m. and took off at 7:15. Twelve flights were canceled, 10 with Southwest and two with the smaller, regional operator, PSA Airlines.
