Two suspected kidnappers of U.S. tourist Sue Endicott, guide arrested

US President Donald Trump

Police has said it is holding an undisclosed number of people on allegations of kidnapping Kimberly Sue Endicott, an American tourist together with her tour guide, Jean Paul Mirenge, Congolese national on April 2, while on a game drive in Queen Elizabeth national park, South West of Uganda.

While informing the public about the release of the two, Uganda President Yoweri Museveni said the country was safe and visitors were welcome and the matter should be dealt with as an isolated criminal activity.

The kidnappers later demanded a ransom of $500,000 for Endecott's release.

Uganda said Tuesday some suspects had been arrested in connection with last week's kidnap of an American tourist and her tour guide in a national park while a minister told a local TV that a ransom had been paid to free them.

According to Police, the search to find more suspects is still going on in Kanungu district where some of the suspects were arrested and the neighbouring areas.

Police spokesperson Fred Enanga confirmed to URN that there were some arrests made in regard to the kidnap.

But some analysts believe that Washington's relatively less controversial Golan Heights recognition may have paved the way. By 8:00pm (1700 GMT), overall turnout was 61.3 per cent compared to 62.4 per cent at the same time in 2015 elections.

Two suspected kidnappers of American tourist Kimberly Sue Endicott have been arrested. "You are all aware that we had an intelligence-led operation which in the early stages was calculated and tactical, but now is progressing unhindered because the victims were recovered successfully", he adds.

Enanga further applauded the joint security team for ensuring safe rescue of the victims despite the abductors being armed and in the "dynamic setting of the deep jungles of Ishasha". President Trump tweeted on Monday.

"The policy of the (government of Uganda) is that we don't pay ransom. Come and enjoy the Pearl of Africa".

Endicott and her driver were kidnapped by unknown gunmen on Tuesday last week at Queen Elizabeth National Park in western Uganda. "Bring them to justice openly and quickly!"

It is unclear if the United States or anyone else paid any kind of ransom despite Secretary of State Mike Pompeo saying the US government does not.

Endicott and Remezo were freed in a "negotiated handover, conducted between the Ugandan and US authorities", according to a press statement from Wild Frontiers Uganda, which has been operating safaris in the East African nation since 1996. Still, the ransom payment continues to be disputed by officials on the record.
