Facebook May Finally Stop Forcing You To Use Its Messenger App

Facebook messenger

Currently, the chat button on Facebook acts as a shortcut to a standalone Messenger app which has over 1.3 billion users. It appears it's now backtracking on that and looking to roll chats back into the main Facebook app.

Researcher Jane Manchun Wong, who regularly delves into the recesses of popular apps to see what the developers might have planned for future updates, spotted a new feature within Facebook's app which seems to indicate that the company is, at the very least, toying with the idea of combining the two apps once more. A tap on the messenger icon will provide the list of friends you chatted with on Facebook, to send/reply messages all you have to do is tap...you already know what to do.

Undoubtedly, this new feature is part of Facebook's plan to unify all of its chat apps, including Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp.

Shots fired in London as Ukraine ambassador car rammed
Police said they had been called at around 9.50 am on Saturday to reports of a auto having hit several vehicles in the road. A silver Mercedes raced towards the Ukrainian ambassadors auto as police shot at the driver through the window.

In any case, the Times report hints that integrating all three messenger services is a big priority for Facebook in 2019, as Zuckerberg is reportedly pushing for the unification to be done by the end of this year or early 2020. It hasn't yet been confirmed by Facebook, however, and it's unclear when the change might take place. "The primary objective of the Facebook app is News Feed".

According to the Verge, the move back is now being tested. Facebook says these individual apps will remain, and Wong believes if chat is eventually integrated into the core app, the Messenger application will be used to serve a different market. But given Zuckerberg's reported intention to merge Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp, we're ready to bet this is one of those things that will move out of testing and in the public eye relatively quickly.
