'Sorry guys', Albon says after stunning crash at Chinese Grand Prix

2019 Chinese GP

Alexander Albon has explained the circumstances which lead to his crash in the third free practice session for the Chinese Grand Prix, admitting full responsibility for the incident which cost him his place in qualifying on Saturday, meaning he will start from the back on the grid. It makes racing unpredictable and I'm sure we will see an exciting race tomorrow as well.

Ferrari team boss Mattia Binotto has said that Vettel will have priority in "50-50 situations" but has said the two will be allowed to race.

Red Bull's Max Verstappen, who qualified fifth, was fuming after qualifying.

"I had a pretty big crash in FP3 but I'm OK, I'm just more disappointed I made a mistake", Albon later said of the incident.

Mercedes were the leading force in qualifying and prevented both Scuderia Ferrari cars throughout qualifying from claiming the front row throughout, with Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc starting on the row behind them.

"I think we are getting more and more there, understanding maybe some things related to different tracks, which Barcelona [testing] doesn't show because it's different". "It was a big crash, but it was a silly one as well".

"I'm quite proud of job I've done considering how far I was off. Valtteri has been quick all weekend". "We had a good chance of being in Q3 (the top 10 shootout)". "The vehicle has the pace in it to compete at the front, we just need to find the right set-up".

What Uhuru told Al-Bashir two months to his ouster
The main organizer of protests against Bashir, the Sudanese Professionals Association, rejected Ibn Auf's plans. Rights group Amnesty says the coup in Sudan is a wake up call to leaders who deny people their basic rights.

"The lap was ok, not completely how I wanted it but it was good enough for pole and the auto has been good enough this weekend and Lewis has improved today too".

Albon lost control at the final corner, smashing his auto into the wall in front of the main grandstand Bit disappointing: Hamilton has qualified on pole position six times in China.

"To be as close as we are at the end is fantastic".

"I had been playing around with that Astroturf at the last corner for a while now", he admitted, "because it's a bit quicker using that extra bit of track".

Vettel's best effort was also compromised by an error. "There was a little bit more time left on the table there but that's cool, I'll try and get it tomorrow", added Hamilton. "This was a good day and hopefully [Sunday] will be again, but it's a long season ahead".

"The vehicle has been really good all weekend and Lewis managed to improve a lot during qualifying and it was super close".

To mark the 1,000th race, several drivers have changed their helmet designs.
