Three killed in aircraft runway accident near Mount Everest

Hospital officials get ready to unload from a helicopter the dead bodies of plane crash victims outside the Teaching Hospital in Kathmandu Nepal Sunday

Locals said a Summit Air plane with call sign 9N-AMH collided with a helicopter of Manang Air, which was parked within the airport premise. Hoards of people gathered around the aircraft wreckage following the crash as debris was strewn on the ground.

The incident occurred after Summit Air aircraft with crew members on board took the wrong direction on take-off and hit the nearby parked chopper, District Police Office in Solukhumbu said.

Another policeman died in hospital in Kathmandu, a police spokesman confirmed.

A police official was among those killed and the injured have been airlifted to Kathmandu for treatment, according to The Himalayan Times (HT).

The helicopter was cut in two and three others were damaged.

A civil administrator, Narendra Kumar Lama, said the four passengers and a flight attendant on the plane were safe.
