Donald Trump says Tiger Woods to get Presidential Medal of Freedom

Masters Ratings Early Start Hurts Final Number But CBS Spins Positively

Trump didn't indicate when he'll present the medal to Woods.

President Donald Trump has announced on Twitter that he plans to award the golfer with the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Both are second all-time to Jack Nicklaus, who was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2005 by George W. Bush. It was his first major championship victory in 11 years.

It's a high honor for Tiger, and at the very least fits into the narrative that the story of Tiger Woods supersedes the game of golf.

According to President Donald Trump, Tiger Woods will have yet another award to add to his enormous pile of hardware, all thanks to the comeback he completed on Sunday at Augusta National.

Yogi Berra, Billie Jean King, Muhammad Ali and Arnold Palmer are among other sports figures who have received the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

And Trump tweeted about the Masters several times over the weekend, writing on Sunday afternoon that Woods was "a truly Great Champion!" It's inspirational to people all around the world, and Tiger fans everywhere celebrated as he donned the green jacket. "What a fantastic life comeback for a really great guy!"

Since taking office Trump has given the award to several athletes including former professional National Football League players Roger Staubach and Alan Page and late professional baseball player George Herman "Babe" Ruth, Jr.
