Trump steps up attack on 'out-of-control' Muslim politician Ilhan Omar

US Muslim lawmaker finds support against smear

Omar's remark that U.S. political backing for the Jewish state is fueled by money from a pro-Israel lobbying group, and her open support for a boycott and divestment movement against Israel led to vocal criticism from both sides of the political aisle.

President Trump in the Roosevelt Room of the White House, Friday.

Pelosi was among Democrats who had criticised Trump over the tweet, with some accusing him of trying to incite violence against the Muslim lawmaker.

"They will continue to monitor and address the threats she faces", the speaker said.

Trump's spokeswoman Sarah Sanders, meanwhile, defended the president Sunday against accusations that he was inciting violence toward Omar.

Ilhan Omar, a Democratic lawmaker from Minnesota, has been at the center of an escalating row following a speech she made about Islamophobia in which she was accused by conservatives of downplaying the deadliest attacks on USA soil by characterizing the event as "some people did something". "She might have some opinions, but that shouldn't put her in a position that we attack her", said Abdullahi Farah, a Somali-American who attended the rally.

On Sunday, Pelosi asked House officials to review security measures meant to protect Representative Omar after President Trump's tweet.

But, she added: "The president is absolutely and should be calling out the congresswoman for her not only one-time but history of anti-Semitic comments".

Pelosi also called on Trump to take down the video, which she described "disrespectful" and "dangerous".

Com breach allowed hackers to read (some) emails for months
The hacker had access to email accounts from Outlook, MSN and Hotmail between January 1 and March 28, Microsoft said. Microsoft sent a warning to Outlook users detailing a hack that lasted from January 1 to March 28.

Omar delivered a 20-minute speech to a Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) banquet on March 23, a week after the Christchurch mosque shootings in New Zealand, which killed 50 people during Friday prayer at a mosque. If you listen to more than those four words, though, it's obvious that that's not what she was saying.

"I don't think it is the president who's putting her in danger".

Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., sits with fellow Democrats on the House Education and Labor Committee.

Critics accuse Omar of being flippant in describing the perpetrators of the attacks that killed almost 3000 people. The video coupled her comments from a recent speech in which she said "some people did something" with images of the hijacked airplanes striking the World Trade Center.

The plain truth is this: Omar's comments may sound flippant when taken out of context, but they were nowhere near as offensive as the right made them out to be-and Trump's tweet, though thoughtless and unfair, did not represent any kind of violent threat. It has had more than 10 million views since it was posted. That same day, the video was removed, but it is unclear whether it was because of Pelosi's demand.

The California Democrat also called on Trump to take down the video.

WASHINGTON, DC - MARCH 5: U.S. President Donald Trump (R) shakes hands withIsrael Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as they meet in the Oval Office of the White House March 5, 2018 in Washington, DC. "The bigger question is why aren't Democrats doing the same thing?"

In general, don't criticize a politician because some people might take it too far and threaten her would be a bad rule, one that would make it more hard to hold politicians accountable when they really have earned a good lambasting.

Democratic Congressman Jerrold Nadler said on CNN Sunday he had no problem with Omar's comments. While many lawmakers have privately criticized Pelosi about her response to Omar, few would go on the record - a sign of either deep respect for her long-held position or fear of reprisal.
