Microsoft's true wireless Surface Buds to rival Apple AirPods

Microsoft is working on Surface earbuds to compete with Apple's AirPods

Recently, we learned Amazon might be developing its own pair of Alexa-powered wireless earbuds, in an effort to take on Apple AirPods.

"According to multiple sources who are familiar with the company's plans, Microsoft is now working on a pair of earbuds under the code name of Morrison", wrote Sams. While audio companies like Sennheiser and RHA look to make true wireless headphones with the primary goal of merging sound quality with convenience, for Microsoft, it could be an attempt to make an entry into the mobile space after not having much success with smartphones. In October previous year, Microsoft unveiled the Surface Headphones with 40mm drivers and over-ear form factor.

The Surface Buds will likely come with Microsoft's AI assistant, Cortana, integrated into them, meaning users would be able to control the device with their voice. The same applies to Amazon, which is also reportedly working on its own AirPods competitor as a way to get Alexa into more people's pockets. "Spin the noise cancellation dial on Microsoft's new cans, and the world fades away", we wrote at the time.

US AG Barr claims FBI spied on Trump campaign
He later said he is not sure there had been improper surveillance but will make sure proper procedures were followed. And do you know why we fight back? Mark Warner , the top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, told CNN .

Surface Buds wouldn't be Microsoft's first foray into high-end headphones, either. Sams mentions a feature that would "make reading content easier on the phone", but offered no further details. Keep in mind Microsoft already sells the $349.99 Surface Headphones, a pair of over-ear headphones with Cortana and premium features like noise cancellation.

They'll come with a wireless charging case akin to the one just released with Apple's second-generation AirPods.

We expect to hear more on this over the coming weeks and months - and though we don't yet have a definitive release date, the report from Thurrott suggests we could see the Surface Buds as early as 2019.
