Mozilla releases another fix for broken Firefox extensions

A technical glitch has broken everyone's Firefox extensions

The good news is that Mozilla doesn't anticipate new problems after the update to Firefox 66.0.4, which should fix the "disabled add-ons" issue for all users.

On Friday, Mozilla allowed an intermediate certificate to expire that is used to sign Firefox addons.

From blocking ads and cleaning up page layouts, to quickly sharing pages to social media and streamlining downloads, Firefox add-ons can provide a big boost in functionality on top of the core browser itself.

Even if Mozilla rushed to fix the critical issue with the release of Firefox 66.0.4 and Firefox 60.6.2 ESR, it would appear that many issue are still present even after installing these versions.

Firefox coders dealt swiftly with the crisis, pushing out a partial fix through the company's Studies feature-testing component for Desktop users of Firefox.

Mindful of his 2020 re-election bid, Trump suggested the measures were not leading to price increases for U.S. consumers. That follows talks in April in Beijing that Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin called "productive".

Preferences which could enable Mozilla to collect data on users have been disabled in the version of Firefox which this writer uses; it is provided by the Debian GNU/Linux project and is an extended support release.

Via Twitter on Sunday, Mozilla said, "There are some issues we're still working on, but we wanted to get this release out and get your add-ons back up & running before Monday". "The fix will be automatically applied in the background within the next few hours", Kev Needham, Mozilla's product manager for add-ons, said in a blog post early Saturday morning. The company also said that customers should not delete and/or re-install any add-ons as an attempt to fix the issue.

Firefox users reported a problem where they were unable to run their add-ons and extensions. Users are directed to bug 1549129 for more information.

Mozilla has updated their release notes for 66.0.4 to contain the following fix as part of the list of changes. This system is enabled by default, and no action is needed unless Studies have been disabled. So far, Mozilla developers have been unable to replicate the bug internally.
