Google Makes the Pixel 3a and 3a XL Official

Google’s $399 Pixel 3a attacks Apple’s iPhone on the headphone jack . . . and price

The launch of the 3a line comes days after Alphabet chief financial officer Ruth Porat told Wall Street analysts that the premium Pixel handsets didn't sell well in the first quarter.

Because the initial buzz around these phones has been nearly universally positive-and because these are the first Pixels to be sold through carriers besides Verizon-we've put together a quick roundup the various deals retailers and carriers are offering alongside the Pixel 3A on launch week.

Alas, wireless charging has (understandably) been dropped from the 3a and XL, as the all-glass design has been replaced by a more cost-effective polycarbonate chassis on both phones - which is now available in a new color, Purple-ish, in addition to the standard Clearly White and Just Black. The larger Pixel 3a XL has a 6-inch screen and costs $479.

Google announced two new phones adding to its growing roster of Google made hardware.

Google launches $399 Pixel phone, more U.S. carriers will sell it
Camera wise, Google notes that the Pixel 3a's software can do what other companies (read: Apple) need advanced hardware to do. Google also promises three years of support, which should be more than enough to keep your phone safe.

Both phones boast a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 670 Octa-core processor with 4GB of RAM and 64GB storage.

This is full Android 9 Pie, not some Go version, and it seems Google is doing some magic here. I mean, notice how I'm restoring 150 apps and the phone doesn't stutter at all. In absolutely everything it feels and works like a flagship. We still don't know why Google waited almost 7 months after the Pixel 3 series was announced to get the 3a and 3a XL out the door, but we at least know there was some sort of setback. The replies feature is now available only in English, but Google says more languages will be added in the future. But even more stunning is live captioning for your phone calls, allowing you to talk to someone without needing to hear them. We have a 12.2 megapixel Sony IMX363 sensor here at f/1.8 aperture and 1.4 microns, and, at the front, we have 8 megapixels at f/2 and 1.12 microns. Wow that's not the case here.

Probably the only other feature that's noticeably different between the Pixel 3 and 3a is the way the audio is delivered. You might see slightly slower processing in photos, but the results are NOT those of a mid-ranger. The Pixel 3a is running software build number PD2A.190115.032, which looks like a random alphanumeric string but actually has a good bit of information we can easily decipher. The selfie camera sadly doesn't do 4K in video, but the photos are quite pleasing. There are more carrier partners this time as well.
