Tencent Suspends Blockbuster Video Game 'PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds' in China

PUBG Mobile Pulled by Tencent From China as Regulatory Approval Proves Elusive

That means they won't have to start over with this new game, which means Tencent isn't likely to lose too many of PUBG Mobile's players.

With so many players logging in to play the game each day, Tencent needed an alternative and that comes in the form of Game for Peace. It also said it had launched an anti-terrorism-themed "Game for Peace", for which it gained monetization approval in April. Some players have even had their progress carry on from the original game.

In a freaky twist however, Tencent has replaced PUBG with an all-new patriotic title, Game for Peace, which the publisher states "pays tribute to the blue sky warriors that guard our country's airspace", referencing China's air force.

It seems unlikely this will be the last instance of a very popular game being conveniently overlooked by the regulators as a way of forcing the publisher to stop offering it for play. In response, the replacement, Game for Peace, has been given a socialist makeover to meet the strict government regulations. Analysts estimate that PUBG Mobile had 70 million daily active players in China before this move.

Tencent's shares were up by as much as 3.7 percent, their biggest intraday climb in about two months.

New York Times Publishes Trump Tax Data Spanning Ten Years
In 1985, the future president reported $46.1 million in losses from his casinos, hotels and other businesses, according to the report .

Industry insiders had estimated the Chinese Internet giant could rake in one billion US dollars in revenue after getting the green light to cash in on the game.

Although the approvals process has since resumed, regulators are still working through a hefty backlog, and it would appear that Tencent has grown exhausted of waiting for PUBG Mobile to be given the green light.

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds might be one of the world's biggest games, but its parent company, Tencent, has made a decision to discontinue the game in China.

Some Weibo users said on starting Game for Peace, they found themselves at a place in the game that strongly resembled the place they left off in PUBG, complete with PUBG gaming history. Those blue sky warriors being the Chinese air force.
