Doris Day Dies: 'Pillow Talk' Star, Singer Dead at 97

Hollywood legend Doris Day dies at age 97

On the strength of her voice, Day, who had no acting experience, was offered a starring role in 1948's Romance on the High Seas.

Doris (born Doris von Kappelhoff) began her entertainment career not in front of the camera but behind a microphone, as the Cincinnati, Ohio native first sang on local radio programs with big bands. "She [brightened] our lives and lived out her life with dignity".

Day "had been in excellent physical health for her age" but had recently contracted pneumonia, the foundation said in a statement.

It was in that year that she scored another Top 10 album in the United Kingdom - thus becoming the oldest person ever to do so, with a collection of previously unreleased material.

In 1956, Day starred in Alfred Hitchcock's The Man Who Knew Too Much, which was also famous for the song "Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be)" which was later recorded for Columbia.

This isn't an attempt at a standard obituary.

Fellow actress Goldie Hawn said "Doris Day left us and took a piece of the sun with her" in an emotional Twitter message. "I thought she was attractive".

Amazon's proposition to employees: Quit and we'll pay you to haul packages
He said that more than 200 Amazon delivery businesses have been created since the company launched the program in June of 2018. The offer is open to most part-time and full-time Amazon employees, including warehouse workers who pack and ship orders.

Bashara adds Day "died peacefully" after a fulfilling life working on films and TV shows.

The star's last major hit in the United States, it is notable for the third verse - where Day's performance of the first and second verses superimposed, creating the illusion she's singing with herself. There you have yet another Doris Day-but all sprang from the same person. They transcended their performances, becoming people who represented America at its best.

In recent years, Day made headlines for admitting she was really 95, not 93, in 2017, claiming never to have known her true birth year was 1922. "I don't think anybody would have believed me if I had been cast in the role of the mistress whore Mildred in 'Of Human Bondage'".

Our hearts go out to Doris Day's loved ones during their time of loss.

Despite being a lifelong Republican, she still supported HIV and AIDS awareness. Day was always appealing, and always appealed to our better natures. Right down to her cheerful, alliterative stage name, she stood for the era's ideal of innocence and G-rated love, a parallel world to her contemporary Marilyn Monroe.

Day also found success as a singer with Whatever Will Be, Will Be (Que Sera, Sera) arguably her biggest and most familiar hit. Once you get going, there are nearly too many Doris Days to count.
