Baytown officer fatally shoots woman after struggle over Taser

In a news release, the department said the police officer saw the woman, who he knew from previous encounters had outstanding warrants, and attempted to arrest her.

The fight and shooting happened in the 1600 block of Garth Road at about 10:40 p.m., according to Lt. Steve Dorris with the Baytown Police Department.

A police officer, who has not been identified, tried to arrest a woman who had outstanding warrants.

Witness video from the encounter, which was posted to social media and went viral overnight, shows the officer attempting to apprehend the woman near a parked vehicle. "I'm actually walking to my house!"

Turner was on medication for mental illness and had previously complained about the officer's treatment of her, her sister told KPRC.

Family members were not able to confirm if Turner was pregnant at the time, and police will not be able to confirm until an autopsy is completed.

Dorris says the officer opened fire after the woman grabbed the officer's Taser and used it against him.

During a video of the attack, the woman can be heard saying "I'm pregnant", according to KHOU-TV, a Houston area station that reviewed the footage.

Police say the officer then pulled his duty weapon and fired several shots, hitting her at least once.

She yells, "I'm pregnant!"

Witnesses said police administered CPR, but the woman died at the scene.

Per department policy, the officer has been placed on three days of paid administrative leave, the Baytown reported.

"This was a very rare moment when the officer actually came upon the offense as it was being committed and captured part of the stabbings on camera", Travis County District Attorney Margaret Moore told FOX7.

"It's unfortunate that somebody takes a tragic incident like this and posts it on social media", he said. "We would often see her, see her walk her dog around".

A neighbour in Baytown, near Houston, Raquelle Cuellar told ABC 13: "It was a sad situation".

Police also said the woman, whose name has not yet been released, is someone they've dealt with in the past.

Police are searching for the person who recorded the video, with Dorris denouncing the action. "That's extremely disrespectful for everybody involved".
