They are receiving medical care locally and three are in a serious condition.

"Coast Guard Sector Juneau Command Center watchstanders launched a Coast Guard Air Station Sitka MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew and two 45-foot Response Boat-Medium crews from Coast Guard Station Ketchikan".

"All of us at Princess Cruises are deeply saddened by this tragic news", spokesman Brian O'Connor said.

Mr Schofield said the efforts would continue "until we have exhausted all chance of finding anybody".

A spokeswoman for Taquan Air, operator of the Otter, said the company had suspended operations while federal authorities investigated the deadly crash.

"With the loss of life in this case, we know that impact to Alaska is vast", said Captain Stephen White, Coast Guard Sector commander.

Both planes were from the same cruise ship, the Royal Princess. "A second float plane was also involved in an incident and was carrying four guests from Royal Princess on an independent tour", the company said, expressing their condolences to victims' families. She also said the ship would not leave as scheduled and that details were not provided as to how the accident could affect the rest of the cruise ship's trip.

The two planes collided yesterday at 1.08pm local time, according to Princess Cruises, about eight nautical miles off Ketchikan, Alaska.

There were 11 people on one plane, and Petty Officer Jon-Paul Rios says the 10 injured were from that plane, one critically.

Two people remained missing after the crash Monday near Ketchikan.

‘Empire’ will end with Season 6
Supporters had asked Fox to bring Smollett back to the show, including leading cast members Taraji Henson and Terrence Howard . Since last season, Empire has lost approximately half of its viewing audience, most likely due in part to the Smollett fracas.

Monday's crash involved a Beaver floatplane and an Otter floatplane, one of which was returning from a tour of the nearby Misty Fjords National Monument park.

The Coast Guard says the 11th person on board that plane is missing.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board were investigating.

Ten other passengers have been taken to hospital following the incident on Monday near the town of Ketchikan.

The Coast Guard said in an update Tuesday at least four people died.

Princess Cruises is owned by Miami-based Carnival Corp.

Seaplanes have pontoons mounted under the fuselage so they can land on water. The 10th passenger on that flight was unaccounted for as of Monday night.

"Our thoughts and sympathies are with the family and loved ones of the Canadian citizen who died in Alaska", Global Affairs said in an email. The nationality of the pilot was not immediately known.
