Selena Gomez blasts social media as 'terrible' for her generation

Cannes Film Festival 5 Rising Stars To Watch Out For

Selena Gomez has enjoyed a huge following on Instagram, with more than 150 million followers... but she's not a fan of social media, for a very good reason.

The New York Daily News reports that Gomez, who is in Cannes, France, promoting the zombie apocalypse horror flick, "The Dead Don't Die", which officially opened the festival, told a press conference that social media has destroyed young lives, particularly young girls' lives. "It is risky. I don't think people are getting the right information".

"Social media has really been awful for my generation", Gomez, 26, told a news conference at Cannes on Wednesday, where the actress is promoting zombie movie "The Dead Don't Die" alongside actors Bill Murray and Tilda Swinton.

Ishita had announced "new beginnings" post the break up with pictures from her get-together with friends.

We have to say, Gomez is absolutely right about social media being a bittersweet entity at times. It's unbelievable to use your platform, but it does scare me when you see how exposed these young girls and young boys are. "They're not really aware of the news or anything going on". I think it's unsafe for sure.

Saudi Arabia: Terrorist acts against the Gulf are targeting global oil supply
Riyadh separately announced that two of its oil tankers, apparently among the four, were "sabotaged" off the coast of Fujairah. Iran is embroiled in a war of words with the United States over sanctions and the US military presence in the region.

In light of her own massive social media presence, Gomez was asked what celebrities and tech industry giants could do to make the online world less toxic. I noticed with me, I got kind of depressed looking at these people who look handsome and incredible, and it would just get me down a lot.

While she did say that she's "grateful to have a platform", she noted, "In any way I can, I'll share things I'm very passionate about". I don't do a lot of pointless pictures. "I like to be intentional with it", she said. How will her lehenga look like, what will her chooda/sankha-pola colour be, will she be the most lovely bride on this planet and many more similar thoughts crowd up a girl's mind during her growing up years. "I'll meet them at meet-and-greets, and they're just devastated by bullying and not having a voice". As with many zombie films, it's basically about confronting the end of the world.

Jarmusch, 66, is a Cannes favourite who has premiered hits such as "Broken Flowers", "Only Lovers Left Alive" and "Paterson" at the festival.

"Watching nature in decline is unprecedented for humans, and it's terrifying and concerns me", said Jarmusch, the failure to address what threatens the living specifically, that disturbs me and scares me a lot".

He said despite the film's grim message, the fervour of young climate activists gave him grounds for hope. "These are real lives you guys are talking about real emotions stop acting like you know anything about anything. go to school read your books and focus on your own personal life".
