American gored while trying to take selfie with Pamplona bull

Jaime Alvarez chose to go back for a selfie. Four people - two Americans and two Spaniards - have been gored since the festival started on Sunday.

His wife and daughter, after finding out he'd be fine, were naturally pissed, and his wife had told him to stay out of the bull-running crowd.

"The joy and the excitement of being in the bullring quickly turned into a scare, into real fear for my life", Alvarez, 46, said Monday at a hospital where he was recovering from surgery.

Doctors have said it is "beyond miraculous" that the horn didn't hit the jugular vein or major arteries.

Describing the moment he was mowed by the half-ton animal, Alvarez said: "The impact was unlike anything I've ever felt".

Jaime Alvarez from Santa Clara County, California, sits in a hospital in Pamplona, northern Spain, Monday, July 8, 2019 after being gored by a bull Sunday at the San Fermin Festival.

Despite the traumatic experience, Alvarez told the outlet he planned to return to Pamplona, but only as a spectator to enjoy the annual festival.

Davis is only a season removed from being voted third in both MVP and Defensive Player of the Year voting. Winners of 16 NBA Titles, the Lakers are easily more popular in Southern California than the Clippers .

Bull runs take place every morning for eight days during the San Fermín festival.

"I was really out of it, really stunned, I didn't know what direction to go", he explained to the news outlet.

Injuries are also not uncommon at the event, with records dating back to 1910 listing 16 deaths, according to the outlet.

The six bulls from the Cebada Gago ranch, which is known for raising ferocious animals, were surrounded by tame cattle for most of the 930-yard route to the bullring, leaving runners scrambling for limited space close to their horns. He wanted 'a five-second video scene to say: 'Here I am, I did it'. It was only after he let his guard down and made a decision to shoot a quick, five-second video that a bull came out of nowhere.

The local Red Cross said emergency personnel attended to 48 people with less serious or minor injuries, including two who were trampled by the racing bulls. So far this year, at least 12 humans have been injured, including three who were gored but were lucky enough to escape with their lives.

The run, which lasted 2 minutes and 41 seconds, came after the festival's official opening - or "Chupinazo" - on Friday, when tens of thousands of party-goers shower each other with wine and champagne in a packed square.
