A Telstra Outage Has Caused Huge Technical Issues Across the Nation

A huge Telstra outage has taken out ATMs and EFTPOS machines around the country, potentially affecting thousands of businesses.

Customers in multiple states and territories are reporting connectivity issues with Australia's largest telco and bank. "We're sorry for the impact and inconvenience caused", a Telstra spokesperson said.

Banks including the Commonwealth, Westpac, NAB and ANZ have confirmed they're also having issues with ATMs, Eftpos and logins to online banking services. We are continuing to monitor all services as this happens.

Both ATMs and EFTPOS terminals are believed to be affected. "We apologise and thank you for your patience today as we worked to restore services", the CBA tweeted.

MAJOR retailers and banks across the country have been hit by a Telstra outage, meaning some payment methods are offline.

"Our teams are communicating with external providers on when services will be restored & we'll keep you updated".

"We are impacted by an issue with one of our telecommunication providers that are affecting some of our services". However, it only appears to be affecting low-value transactions.

Amazon Announces 48-Hour Prime Day
Heads up, bargain hunters: eBay just announced plans to hold a " Crash Sale " on July 15 to compete with Amazon Prime Day . More than a million deals will be on offer, we're told, with "the biggest Prime Day deals ever on Alexa-enabled devices".

Commonwealth Bank says the matter is under urgent investigation.

- CommBank (@CommBank) July 11, 2019(2/2) We are experiencing higher than normal calls into our call centre.

Caltex service stations, Coles and Woolworths stores, Big W and liquor retailers BWS and Dan Murphy's weren't spared from the outage.

Customers had complained to CBA via social media that their EFTPOS machines were displaying error messages.

Woolworths customers reported hearing an announcement telling them of a nationwide outage which is leaving some unable to pay for their groceries.

"We're working closely with Telstra to rectify the network issue as quickly as possible".

A Reuters reporter at one supermarket in Sydney said the problem caused havoc as automated checkouts - which account for most checkouts at many stores - were shut down and staff checked customers' signatures to process card payments.
