Astros' Marisnick appeals 2 game-suspension for Lucroy collision

Joe Torre, MLB's chief baseball officer, said he thoroughly reviewed the play from all angles. While I do not believe that Jake meant to injure Jonathan, the contact he initiated in his attempt to score violated Official Baseball Rule 6.01 (1), which is created to protect catchers from precisely this type of collision.

"I don't think the suspension was necessary, I don't think it was warranted, but Major League Baseball wants to maintain their control over the collisions at the plate, and for all of the right reasons", Hinch said.

Barring an appeal, Marisnick will be able to return to the Astros' lineup on Saturday when the team continues its four-game set with the Texas Rangers. In addition, a catcher without possession of the ball shall not be adjudged to violate this Rule 6.01 (i)(2) if the runner could have avoided the collision with the catcher (or other player covering home plate) by sliding.

"It certainly didn't look like a clean play", Ausmus, who is a former catcher, told reporters after the game. "I've seen a lot of takes on it, and obviously everybody has their own opinion, but I know deep down in my heart that I had no intent to hurt or make contact with him". The brutal hit caused Lucroy to get a concussion, as well as a broken nose.

Beyoncé pulled out all the stops when she attended the Lion King premiere at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on Tuesday night. One day I'm there Jon asked me to do some singing stuff, another day he asks me to do some lines.

Lucroy appeared to be knocked unconscious momentarily after the contact and Marisnick immediately went over to him to check on him knowing the violence of their collision.

Marisnick defended his play in interviews following the game, but he also said in a Twitter post on Sunday evening that he "felt bad", and apologized profusely to Lucroy.

"Major League Baseball should probably take a look at it and consider some type of suspension, quite frankly", he said. I walked him through what I was seeing. "Just turned out to be an ugly play".
